RICHMOND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Building on a revolutionary year for the hemp industry, Nutiva is celebrating 20 years of hemp advocacy and the dawning of a new era of hemp production and cultivation in the U.S. through the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. According to Hemp Business Journal, U.S. sales of hemp products are projected to reach $2.6 billion by 2020. This explosive industry growth inspired the theme for this year’s Hemp History Week, “Return of the Plant,” taking place from June 3-9.
“Nutiva is extremely proud of our continued hemp advocacy and unwavering support for the industry, both in the past and present day,” said Steven Naccarato, CEO of Nutiva. “Hemp has been the very core of our business since the beginning thanks to the incredible vision of our founder John Roulac, who launched the company in 1999 with just 500 hemp bars and paved the way for the legal consumption of hemp foods in this country. Today we offer a variety of high-quality hemp products from hempseed to hempseed oil and have donated more than $1 million to hemp advocacy to date, and we’re thrilled to soon introduce our new Full Spectrum Hemp innovation with the same high-quality standards that our consumers and partners have come to expect from Nutiva. We’ve been working with our farming partners in the north for 20 years, and we’re excited to support and strengthen our relationships with both new and existing partners in the U.S. We’re proud to support Hemp History Week and share our tremendous legacy in the space with consumers throughout the country.”
Nutiva has been a trusted leader, innovator and advocate for the advancement of hemp-based foods for 20 years. When the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency declared hemp foods illegal in 2001, Nutiva founder Roulac led a historic and successful legal victory which laid the groundwork for hemp foods to be legal for consumption. He has also written three books on the uses and production of hemp and hemp products. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, Nutiva has begun to build out its U.S. hemp farming relationships to supplement its strong partners in Canada, and recently introduced the world’s first USA-Grown Organic Hempseed from a national organic brand.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Hemp History Week aims to raise awareness about the environmental sustainability, health benefits, regenerative agriculture potential and new technological applications of industrial hemp. It is an industry-wide initiative of the Hemp Industries Association (HIA), and receives support from hundreds of grassroots and retailer events. Themed “Return of the Plant,” this year will celebrate the recent passage of the Farm Bill with the Hemp Farming Amendment, which has removed hemp from the Controlled Substances Act and legalizes hemp farming in the U.S.
